Knowledge is eternal

Naina Singh

'Share your knowledge and become immortal.’ – H. Jackson Brown Junior.

Immortality is the indefinite continuation of a person or thing's existence, even after death. It originates from the Latin word immortalis, where 'im' means 'not' and 'mortalis' means mortal. Usage of the term is usually for people or animals. Here, I want to use it for education.

Humans are continuously learning. A culmination of a millennium of stories and events has given us experiences. We have created out of this knowledge. For example, the Mesopotamians discovered the wheel while the Wright Brothers flew the very first aeroplane. All through knowledge. It has helped us evolve into what we are today. Education and evolution go hand in hand. Generations will come and go and, with this, the occult of knowledge will increase. It is immortal. It is the reason why, humans as a whole are immortal.

Knowledge may be everlasting, but it is not stagnant. As times change, the way education is perceived changes as well. Previously, a handful of children attended classes. The syllabus included more bookish knowledge. The curriculum, the medium of teaching and the mindset of society have now drastically improved. The government works towards educating the masses. The curriculum is much more vocational. The community is now more open-minded to the education of various minorities. Quite recently, schools have been implementing a digital medium of learning. Years ago, education was a privilege. Today, it is the right of every child to receive a full education. There will certainly be changes a couple of years down the road, hopefully for the better. Who knows what the future holds for those itching to learn?

Our school has been around since 2004. Sixteen batches have passed through the school after gaining invaluable knowledge. The school will educate countless more young minds. Sixteen years’ worth of memories also reside within the building. No matter how long any student has been a part of the school, their presence has been etched. The school is immortal. The building may not be there, but each student’s memories and stories will keep it alive.
