Entertainment and pride
Entertainment mediums such as movies, tv shows, music and theatre have always been a huge part of every generation. Although in a lot of media portrayal LGBTQ+ people is very stereotypical which is what we need to try to improve in.
Although there are some movies/tv-shows which give a very positive light and good representation to the LGBTQ+ community! A few of them being - Love Simon, Love Victor, Glee, Atypical etc.
Once we as a society normalise such tv shows and storylines then people will be more comfortable with the idea of the LGBTQ+ community and then people of those community will not only feel more accepted but also will be able to be themselves openly.
The entertainment industry has done a lot to help ease people into the idea of the LGBTQ+ community but there’s still a lot of things that can be done. Things like movies, ads and tv shows can help erase the prejudice towards this community, in fact, there’s been a study that almost 48% of people have become more accepting of this community because of the representation done thru the entertainment industry. Even though there’s a very big stereotype around this community it can very easily be erased thru these industries that connect with everyone
Things like movies, books and tv shows are going to stick around for a very long time and thus we can rely on these sources to help us and our future generations to grow and move ahead instead of taking steps in the backwards direction.
Sports - the conquest to removing homophobia.
Sports is a very powerful tool to date, it’s sad to see that people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community still happen to face issues and barriers while trying to participate in sports - they face harassment in multiple fields. And this culture needs to be changed, sports can be used as a social development if used correctly by everyone.
Sports teams, clubs need to be made more welcoming for everyone. Sports should be used as a symbol of the union of mankind, sports just like any other industry can help people ease to the idea of the LGBTQ+ community. Once the sports industry creates non-toxic entertainment for this community then soon society as a whole will create a non-toxic environment for this community and that is very necessary.
Sports has the ability to connect people from all around the world because that’s how much power it holds, so once the LGBTQ+ community has more representation thru the sports industry then it’ll start to get normalised. There still is a lot of homophobia in the sports industry and it’s time that it’s worked on and soon removed completely because equality doesn’t only mean politically it means equality in every single field and in every single industry.
