Teacher's Day

Teachers Day is a tradition. It has been a tradition and celebration at Greenwood High since its inception. Do you remember the awesome performances? The day of festivities and fun to celebrate those who guide us through the thorny web of school? This year, Teachers Day looks a little different from the usual festivities. That doesn’t mean it’s any less meaningful.

The seniors were looking forward to hosting this year’s event and show the teachers how much they care before they graduate, but Miss Corona did NOT let that happen this year. However, our council does not know how to give up. They weren’t going to let the virus cancel one of the most important school traditions. Online school means an online celebration. And Greenwood High definitely paid up on that. The high school seniors took it upon themselves to plan an amazing Teacher’s Day Festa, all through the internet.

School Captain, Arohi Sachar and Cultural Secretary, Sanjana Agarwal started planning the whole event and made a whole slew of WhatsApp groups to co-ordinate the performances of the high school body. Then there was the quest to find editors for the videos. A good performance would have nothing for it without all the background work that goes into getting it into the final cut. Frustrations were running high with people backing out left and right, making the organizers want to bury themselves. The days consisted of spamming people with reminders to send in their videos, along with editors about the changes to be made to said videos. It also resulted in heaps and heaps of hilarious bloopers. The backend work was fun as the audience ready video. All in all, the effort paid off, and the hour-long celebration was finally compiled.

In case you have been living under a rock, the video is now on YouTube. It began with an address from our beloved Principal Aloysius D’Mello and continued on to performances put on by the students from Grades 1st to 12th. It concluded with a performance from the seniors and pictures taken at various school events last year to reignite the precious memories the graduating batch had made with their fantastic teachers. The wonders of technology were well employed to create a visual experience unlike any Teachers Day fest we have ever seen before. The editors, performers, and organisers truly brought the virtual house down.

The Performance Video was not the only gem in the crown of festivities for the day. A video with the Teachers Day wished from all the students was sent out to our teachers so they can see how much their classes truly appreciate them, especially in the befuddling era of online classes. Another noteworthy piece was The Green Pages Teachers Day Special by Arnav Sampigethaya. It featured interviews with the student body about the high school teachers and included heartwarming words about the teachers who made the students who they are today.

Online classes may have an effect on schoolchildren, but they also have a toll on the teachers taking those classes. It’s not easy putting up with restless, tired, confused children and we thank our superhuman teachers for everything they have done for us during this unusual time period. A teacher has strength like no other because in their hands they hold the world’s future. We thank the teachers of Greenwood High for helping us build ours.
