TGP Design: a 3 part narrative

By Arya Vinu

A Messy Debut

An unlikely group of aesthetically inclined students with little experience of web designing. Or online magazines. Or even technology as a whole (I do admit to be a bit old fashioned that way). Brought together by our overachieving idealist of an editor, Edha Singh. Our first ever issue was a whirlwind of confusion, coffee and LOTS of on-the-spot learning. A couple of high strung weekends spent on countless shades of green, a handful of fresher articles and a skeleton of a site, The Green Pages was out.

The murky in between

Several issues in, and we seemed to have got the hang of it, however chaotic it was. The weekly list of tasks from good ol’ workaholic Pragya became more manageable (more or less). And we got creative. And bold. Our team was now a platform that hosted debates over fonts, colour palettes, and theme aesthetics. Every miniscule victory was celebrated with misspelled “Yays” and “WE GOT ITs”

Every issue challenged our creative limits, not only because of the bizarre themes the editors presented us with, but also because we simply couldn’t let ourselves settle for less. Whether it was trying out video covers (we’ll never forget Issue 4), starting a memorable impromptu virtual ethnic day, to creating our own cover art.

A schmaltzy end

Our seemingly endless and frustratingly rewarding jobs as amateur designers had to conclude. We’d always talked about how hard it would be to end it all, but i don’t suppose it hit so hard until the moment came. Through all the pressure and the inside jokes and creative brainstorming, we became a family. We bonded over our aesthetic interests, how compelling it was to blow off school work for design work, accidentally publishing, impromptu travel plans, our shared contempt towards the ever so uncooperative writers, and all our quips.

TGP design is a workaholic, a reserved enthusiast, an absentee muse, an idealist and a disorganised visionary. Oh, and a cat. Occasionally.
