Editor's Picks: June

The second month of TGP- OMG time really flies! This month we decided to slow down to two issues as the team has added responsibilities with online school started. Interesting things this month were the launch of our podcast OverACup, which has two series out; a spectacular interview on Career as a Venture Capitalist, taken by Pragya Jhunjhunwala(Counselling writer); Issue 7 had two star team members- Arshiya Khattar and Arya Vinu, because we simply couldn't choose. All issues have been a joy ride but Issue 7 was the one that stole our hearts. To read personal articles where the authors bore their hearts and experiences out truly moved us.

Hence, this month’s editors' picks proved to be even harder than last months. After much deliberation and debate, we present to you the best of the best-

5)Air India- the Fall of a Maharaja- From the title itself Devansh had us engrossed and what an article it was! The history, woven in simple terms, provides a pathway to what happened to Air India and what led to its demise. A story-like article that will prove to make non-business lovers also nostalgic.

4)Drawing Parallels- Written by Edha Singh and Sam Verma, is another sprawling piece by the Quid Ultra column which shows the situation of police brutality in India. They force the readers to reflect upon the situation in their surroundings and feel unsettled enough to demand a change. Though pretty long, the article provides the reader with a balance of information and opinion.

3)The Story behind your stories- Perhaps the most loved article in June, the psychology column never fails to stun us. Written by Arohi Sachar, the story behind your stories begins theoretically, laying the premise for the article and grabs your attention with the overwhelming account of Anna O. Like a gripping novel, you cannot stop reading this article till you are done, and in pure Arohi style, the conclusion just clicks.

2)Democracy- an intricate web of ideals- When pitching this article, Arnav considered it his worst work. Never would he have believed that this would be the 2nd highest rated article this month. Democracy explains in simple terms what we all never knew we needed to know. The complexity that exists behind the voting system was unknown to the common man and has been expertly broken down in this article. One of Current Affairs’ best articles, Democracy had everyone oohing and aahing.

1) India's tryst with Destiny- Written by Anubhav Mishra, this was without debate the best article we have seen so far. Anubhav is known for his love for historical economics and through this article, you can see not just his knowledge but well-formed opinions surface. In an increasingly capitalist society, one where Nehru’s ideals and policies get questioned, India's tryst with Destiny is the sole torch burning in recognition for him.

We hope you enjoyed this month and agreed with our picks. In the coming month, we have some interesting things lined up like collaborations within the team that will blow your mind! We also have two guest writers for Quid Ultra’s next issue. Do send in any op-eds or commentary articles that you may have, we love hearing your views and opinions. Thank you for your constant support :)

Sincerely,

Edha Singh
